About this app
BG Rules is an iOS app that answers board game rules questions using AI. It is operated by the developer listed under the app’s App Store listing (“we,” “us”).

What we collect
Account information — your email address, display name (optional), and a stable internal user ID. Used to recognize you across sessions and personalize in-app text. We do not send marketing email.
User content — chat messages (questions and AI responses) and your game library (“My Games”). Stored so you can revisit past sessions.
Subscription data — when you purchase BG Rules Pro, Apple provides a signed transaction identifier. We store the transaction ID, product ID, and expiration date. We do not receive or store your payment method or billing address.
Optional: BoardGameGeek integration — if you link your BGG account, we store your BGG username, avatar URL, and owned-games list (IDs, names, thumbnails). This is optional and can be unlinked at any time in Settings.
App diagnostics — app version, build number, and platform, used for troubleshooting and compatibility.
How your chat data is processed
To answer your questions, we send your question text, recent conversation history from the same conversation, and relevant rulebook excerpts to third-party AI inference providers. We do not include your name or email address in these requests.
We configure our AI providers to not use submitted data for model training where such options are available under their terms.
Why we use it
- Delivering the service — account data, chat messages, and subscription status are used solely to provide app functionality.
- Improving answers — your game library and conversation context help us return more relevant responses.
- Preventing fraud — subscription transaction records are retained to detect and prevent receipt abuse.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Contract performance — processing your account data and chat messages to deliver the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interest — retaining subscription transaction records to prevent fraud.
- Consent — linking your BoardGameGeek account. You can withdraw this at any time by unlinking in Settings.
Third parties
We share data only as needed to operate the service:
- Cloud infrastructure provider — authentication, data storage, and backend services.
- AI inference providers — to generate answers to your chat questions.
- Apple — subscription billing and receipt verification.
- BoardGameGeek — to read your public game collection, only when you have linked your account.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising.
International data transfers
The service is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Where required, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or similar safeguards with our service providers.
How long we keep your data
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Chat messages and game library — until you delete your account or clear your history (Settings → Clear Chat History). Backup copies may persist for a limited period.
- Subscription transaction records — retained after account deletion to prevent receipt fraud, as required by Apple. These records are no longer linked to your email or any other personal identifier after deletion.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Delete Account. This immediately revokes your authentication tokens, deletes your account data (chat history, messages, and game library), and signs you out.
The only data retained is the subscription transaction record described above.
Your rights
You may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data
- Request a copy of your data (data portability)
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent (for example, unlinking BoardGameGeek)

California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal data we collect and how it is used
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate personal data
We do not sell or share personal data for advertising purposes.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is completely secure.
Children
BG Rules is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). Users must be at least 13 years old to use the app.
Do Not Track
We do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers or devices.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change. Material changes will be announced in-app and the effective date will be updated.
